Sprite Animation
Task
You are provided with a texture containing a sprite sheet with 2 columns and 4 rows of images. Write a shader program that implements animation using the sprite sheet based on time with a frame rate of 10 frames per second.
The iTime uniform provides the current time in seconds.
Theory
Sprite animation is a technique used in computer graphics and game development to create the illusion of movement by rapidly displaying a sequence of images or frames. Each image, known as a sprite, represents a different state or pose of an object or character. By displaying these sprites in quick succession, the object appears to be animated.
Implementing Sprite Animation
To implement sprite animation using a single texture, a sprite sheet is typically used (Image 1). A sprite sheet is a single image file that contains multiple frames of animation arranged in a grid-like pattern. Each frame corresponds to a different sprite, and by selecting the appropriate portion of the texture for each frame, the animation can be played back.
